Silver lion presented to The Duke of Lancaster Regiment in 2018

The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Wyre in 2018. The statue is engraved and says ‘ On the Occasion of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment receiving the Freedom of the Borough of Wyre 12 April 2018’

A parade to mark the honour was planned for a later date but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Regiment eventually exercised its freedom by marching through the streets of Poulton-le-Fylde for the first time on May 23 2022.

The Freedom of the Borough is the highest honour a council can bestow on a military unit, granting it the right to march through the streets on ceremonial occasions with ‘swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating and colours flying’.
